THE JAKERA CAMP

"YOUR HOME AWAY FROM HOME"

Jakera has established a “jungle surf camp” on the Nicoya Peninsula, located on Costa Rica’s northwest Pacific coast where they’ve created a jungle paradise complete with a swimming pool overlooked by a rich tropical forest teeming with wildlife, including capuchin and howler monkeys.

Do Yoga, take Surf Lessons and learn Spanish, hang out and chill in your free time, socialize with other students, enjoy your meals, and share good moments.

We are located in one of the top 10 surf destinations in the world, and in a Yoga Paradise. We volunteer in various environmental projects, including working alongside international conservationists to protect turtles at a beachside volunteer station. Throughout these projects, you will help preserve precious ecosystems and assist local people in improving their quality of life.

POOL

Although we are situated very close to the beach, our guests often find that our camp's standout feature is our large swimming pool. Freshly renovated in 2023, it's the perfect place to swim and relax.

COMMUNAL

We have a giant hammock chill-out net and plenty of spaces for you to relax and observe the jungle animals. We have created small chill-out areas and big social spaces throughout the camp for your comfort and enjoyment.

FOOD

All the food served at our camp is organic, sourced from local farmers and fishermen, and complemented with garnishes and tidbits from our own garden. Our menu is predominantly vegetarian, but we also serve locally sourced meat and fish.

ROOMS

We offer a variety of shared rooms, accommodating 4 to 26 people. We will assign you to a room upon your arrival. The bathrooms and showers are private but shared with other students.

We are one big family, and our home is your home. Respect and tidiness are the most important rules when living together. We have three camp protectors, Coco, Clio, and Oreo. They appreciate a large amount of food, but giving them your leftovers would harm them.

We do our best to make you feel at home.

We provide fridges, hanging lines, stations to wash your sandy feet off, clean communal spaces, delicious food, and a 24/7 staff that is always there to help.

You are invited to participate in your group’s kitchen duties, keep your rooms tidy and clean, and empty your trash bins.

We are extremely aware of the environment and have recycling & composting stations around our camp.

We avoid single-use plastics and ask our students to do the same. Additionally, we ask our guests to be mindful of their water and electricity usage, as we rely on these resources in the jungle. We encourage everyone to take shorter showers and turn off lights and fans when leaving their rooms. We also organize eco-conscious activities such as beach cleanups and tree planting to give back to the environment and our local community.

At Jakera, we believe in sustainable and responsible tourism, striving to minimize our impact on the environment while providing a memorable and authentic experience for our guests.

Please note that we do not have laundry facilities, but we offer a pick-up and drop-off laundry service

Our big tables are perfect for guests to enjoy meals together, attend Spanish classes, and have fun at night. We have created magical spaces all around the camp where you can hang out with your friends and fellow guests.

To ensure a peaceful environment for everyone, our communal spaces are located away from the rooms. This allows for a respectful area where guests can socialize without disturbing others who may want to rest.

The camp is located in the heart of the jungle, just a 10-minute walk from the beach. You will be surrounded by monkeys, iguanas, birds, and other wildlife.

The lively beach town of Santa Teresa is world-famous for its pristine, uncrowded, and seemingly endless surf breaks across its beaches. After a busy day of programmed activities at Jakera, the town comes alive with funky surf shops, cafes, restaurants, and nightspots to suit every taste and budget.

We encourage guests to join us in the kitchen and enjoy cooking together.

Whenever you have free time, you are welcome to practice your Spanish with our chef and lend a hand in the kitchen.

All the food served at our camp is organic, sourced from local farmers and fishermen, and complemented with garnishes and tidbits from our own garden. Our menu is predominantly vegetarian, but we also serve locally sourced meat and fish.

We provide safe drinking water, tea, coffee, and natural soft drinks at each meal. However, beers and sodas are not included.

Breakfast and lunch are included in your program, and on weekends we serve brunch between 10:00 and 11:00. Dinners are available for a small additional cost, or you can check out one of the many options in town.

We provide a student kitchen with fridges for your food and drinks. You can sign up to use the kitchen.
